Best Beaches to go Shelling: Shelling on the Islands, Part 2

The Sanibel Stoop

As you walk along the beautiful shores of the beaches during your Captiva and Sanibel Island vacations, you will start to notice many people bent over at the waist as though they’re in search for a lost item. Your assumption is not too far off, as they’re doing what is referred to as the Sanibel Stoop or Captiva Crouch, and are in search of fascinating shells! At Kingfisher Vacations, we’re no stranger to shelling as there is only one shell museum in the US, and it’s right on Sanibel Island! The Matthews National Shell Museum is the perfect place to learn all about the shells that reside on our beaches; however, we’d like to elaborate on the best local beaches to explore near our Captiva and Sanibel rentals!

Bowman’s Beach

As you make your way from Sanibel Island Florida to Captiva, you will run into Bowman’s Beach a top rated beach that is perfect for shelling! Located at the north end of Sanibel Island Florida, you’ll find the pristine soft sandy paradise completely coated in shells! Spend a quiet, peaceful afternoon surrounded by white sand, crystal clear waters, and pure seclusion from the busy city life! Your Sanibel Island vacations should be about connecting with your loved ones, feeling rejuvenated, and indulging in absolute bliss and that’s what you’ll experience at Bowman’s Beach!

Blind Pass Beach

During your Sanibel Island vacations, bring your family to the Blind Pass Beach to swim in the emerald waters while you do the Sanibel Stoop! Be on the lookout when in search of beautiful shells because not only will you find a many, but you may also find shark teeth hidden within the shells! Blind Pass is a hidden gem nestled centrally between Sanibel and Captiva Island Florida.

Tarpon Bay Beach

Delight in picturesque views of the open blue waters, on a quiet, uncrowded beach at Tarpon Bay Beach! You’ll find parking easily with a short walk to the entrance of the beach. Spending an afternoon at Tarpon Bay will be at the top of your Sanibel Island things to do list! The clear waters are out a bit from the beach, so you’ll be able to roam freely occasionally dipping your toes in the water. Along with shells, you’ll notice pelicans, ospreys and even notice the occasional dolphin off in the distance! A visit to Tarpon Beach is a must when staying at our lovely Sanibel Island rentals.
