All You Need to Know about Sanibel Beaches
Bowman’s Beach If you’re looking for a quieter, leisurely place to spend your day, Bowman’s Beach is the place to kick back and relax. There are no hotels in sight here, and the nearest restaurant is a few miles away, so make sure to pack plenty of snacks! With a ten-minute walk from the parking lot to the beach and plenty of trails to enjoy, Bowman's Beach is a great place to bike or enjoy a relaxing stroll. If you choose to spend the day, plan on bringing a cart to maneuver your gear to the beach. Bowman's Beach was rated one of the Top 10 Beaches in the World by U.S. Travel. Changing rooms, restrooms, and an outdoor shower, and public telephones, picnic tables, and barbecue grills are available. Both canoe and kayak launching are also available options here. Lighthouse Beach and Fishing Pier If you are going to visit as many Sanibel beaches as you can on your trip, you have to add Lighthouse Beach to your list. For one thing, it is the single best place to visit if you want to get a taste of the Island’s rich history. Since 1884, the 98-foot tall Sanibel Lighthouse has been a favorite local landmark. The National Register of Historic Places added the site to their list in 1974. Cast a line on the fishing pier or take a stroll along the boardwalk, perhaps resting on one of the many wooden benches under the shade. Here, you might even catch a glimpse of the local wildlife like dolphins, stingrays, and pelicans. At Lighthouse Beach, restrooms, showers, a bike rack, tables, and grills are available for use. Handicap parking is also offered. Swimming is not recommended. Gulfside City Park Beach Gulfside City Park is the perfect family-friendly place to picnic and enjoy a lazy day at the Beach. Also known as Algiers Beach, Gulfside is one of the unique Sanibel beaches. Long ago, a steamboat named “Algiers” came to shore, and afterward, the locals gave the Beach that same name. Like Bowman’s Beach, this hidden gem is a beautiful place to unwind since it is quiet and peaceful. Pack a lunch and take one of several boardwalks down to the Beach to set up a picnic or bring something to barbecue on the grill. A bike rack, restrooms, showers are available at Gulfside City Park. Tarpon Bay Beach White sands and a gentle surf will greet you at Tarpon Bay Beach, making it one of the ideal spots for swimming on Sanibel Island. This Beach is also known for windsurfing and collecting shells. Your kids will love it here, seeing as an ice cream truck comes by every once in a while, to sell delicious frozen treats! Tarpon Bay offers outdoor showers, handicap and oversized parking, bike parking, and plenty of restrooms. Causeway Beaches If you're looking for a unique experience, check out the Causeway Beaches (Causeway A and Causeway B) located between Sanibel and the mainland. Here, you can drive your car right up to the shore to take in magnificent sunsets or stay the day to enjoy some swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, shelling, and kiteboarding. More than likely, you will see a few dolphins at the Causeway Beaches. You will find plenty of restrooms, drinking fountains, and picnic tables at the Causeway Beaches. It is free to park, but there is a $6 toll to enter the causeway itself. Here is one extra tip you may find helpful: more shade is available at Causeway B if the day is particularly hot.
